When to choose VTT

WebVTT is the subtitle format built for the web. If you play video on your own website with the HTML5 video element, you add subtitles as a .vtt file. YouTube and Facebook uploads usually work with SRT, so export both if you are not sure. The SRT vs VTT guide explains the differences.

What a VTT file looks like

WEBVTT

00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:02.560
Assalam o Alaikum dosto

00:00:02.560 --> 00:00:05.780
Aaj hum ek zaroori topic ki baat karenge

The file starts with WEBVTT, and times use a period before the milliseconds.

Use it on your own website

  <track kind="subtitles" src="subtitles.vtt" srclang="ur" label="Roman Urdu" default>
